Jamie is spending most of his time with Charles Stuart while Claire takes tea with the ladies. It is at Louise's that she discovers Mary Hawkins is from Seaford in Sussex. Claire remembers Frank showing her the family Bible which linked Mary with Jonathan Randall in marriage. Claire now remembers for Frank to be born, Jack Randall must live another year.
Claire takes her frustrations out on Murtagh but then apologizes and let's him in on her secret. Murtagh thinks it is best that they keep if from Jamie who is sure to risk life and limb to seek revenge.
Master Raymond tells a bored Claire of L’Hôpital des Anges the local charity hospital; thinking she can use her healing skills for good. Claire is overjoyed and drags Murtagh there spending all day lancing boils and trying to show Mother Hildegarde she is skilled enough to be there going so far as to taste a woman's urine to diagnose a case of diabetes. Jamie is unimpressed and angry she wasn't there to help him after he learned Charles has secured funds for the rebellion. When Jamie stomps of in anger it is Claire's ladies maid who tells Murtagh Jamie and Claire haven't been intimate in a while.
Jamie is drowning his sorrows and annoyance with Paris life and spying at Maison Elise. There he spies the serving boy picking pockets and chases him down only to hire him. Jamie brings him home and Claire wonders what Jamie has hired this boy Fergus for. Jamie tells her Fergus is going to steal letters for them to copy and then Fergus will return the letter. Claire declares this a brilliant idea which appeases Jamie. But later one of the letter's Fergus steals is a sheet of music. Murtagh suggests Mother Hildegarde could tell them more about it and Jamie goes to L’Hôpital des Anges.
At L’Hôpital des Anges, Claire has just watched Bouton sniff out and infection and then surgically removed a piece of wood from a man's leg when Jamie arrives seeking Mother Hildegarde's help. She tells them the music sheet is styled after her friend Bach's work but it is clumsy and repeats using different keys.
Jamie and Claire realize this is how you decode the message and at home Jamie translates the message which appears to be from the Duke of Sandringham saying he has secured £40,000. Jamie says this isn't a significant amount for the rebellion but it is enough to convince King Louis to support the cause.
Jamie feels they've finally accomplished something and makes a toast. Murtagh wants Claire to tell Jamie about Randall because if Jamie talks to Sandringham he'll find out anyway. Claire can't bring herself to do it and simply tells Jamie she loves seeing him so happy.
