The beautiful and talented Laura Donnelly has been cast in the lead of Joss Whedon's new project called "The Nevers."
Described as “an epic science fiction drama about a gang of Victorian women who find themselves with unusual abilities, relentless enemies, and a mission that might change the world,” the series will be written, directed, executive produced and showrun by the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” creator himself.
Donnelly will play Amalia True, “the most reckless, impulsive, emotionally damaged hero of her time. A menace to stuffy Victorian society, she would die for the cause and kill for a drink.”
“Laura Donnelly has charisma, wisdom and an anarchic precision that not only captures Amalia but defines her,” Whedon said in a statement. “She’s fierce and she’s funny — and I need both for the journey ahead.”
I'm highly looking forward to this series and I can't wait to see Laura on something else and in the lead. I can't wait.
You may have noticed 'Down the Rabbie Hole' was missing one member of Brianna's 18th century family tree which seemed like a big oversight. Where was Aunt Jenny? Ian tells Brianna Jenny will be upset she missed her but she's off helping with the birth of baby or something. So what happened? Life, I suppose. Laura Donnelly was starring in The Ferryman on stage and couldn't pick up the role again.
But that isn't all. Laura Donnelly has actually hinted she won't return.
Donnelly isn’t sure what comes after The Ferryman, which runs on Broadway through February 17, but it’s probably not Outlander: While her character Jenny made no hard exit from the show’s third season, Donnelly was unable to film the fourth season—she had The Ferryman, gave birth to her second child, then went back to The Ferryman—and her character doesn’t play a part in the next two books on which the series is based. By the time she’s back, in three novels’ time, “she’s old,” Donnelly said, “so I think that’s probably me out.”
It is very true some characters we meet early on in the show don't continue to be regular character at first. Some return briefly and some for short periods of time while others will return to be regulars in the tales of Jamie and Claire. I'm just hoping when it comes time for more Jenny in the future Laura Donnelly is in a place where she's willing. We'd miss you Laura.
