Claire is helping her daughter deal with being a new mother. The Fraser's plan to return to Fraser's Ridge where they can live a quiet life, but Governor Tryon's orders and Roger's return have made life more interesting. While with the Mohawk, Claire learns more about the ghost she saw and his attempt to change history.
In season one, We meet Claire who is on her second honeymoon with her husband Frank after WWII where she was a combat nurse. They are trying to get reacquainted after years apart but on a trip to the local standing stones, Claire is whisked 200 years into the past.
Claire is found by some Highlanders after being attacked by Captain Randall and man who looks exactly like her husband. With the highlanders she meet a Scottish man named Jamie who needs her medical assistance before the Highlanders (who are running from the Redcoats) take her with them to their home, Castle Leoch.
Claire continues to plan a way back to the stones, hoping she cane return but when collecting rents with the MacKenzie men she comes face to face with Capt. Randall and the only was to save her is to becomes Scottish by marriage.
Claire and Jamie are married and attempt to gain Jamie's pardon through the Duke of Sandringham who is fond of Jamie. However, things don't go as planned and after Claire is nearly burned for being a witch the two return to Lallybroch and Jamie's family. But everything doesn't go well as Jamie is captured by the Redcoats and Claire sets out to save him only to find a tortured and abused Jamie who wishes to die.
In Season Two, Claire and Jamie arrive in France where they set about thwarting the Jacobite Rising. Claire puts her medical knowledge to use and makes friends among the ton. One such friend is a young woman she realizes is the six-times great grandmother to her once husband Frank.
Jack Randall reappears causing trouble and harming Fergus. Jamie's hatred and anger gets the best of him and he duels with Randall, hoping to kill him. Claire rushes to the duel in hopes of saving Randall's descendant Frank but she loses the baby as the authorities appear to arrest the duelers.
Claire is taken to the hospital but is dying herself after the miscarriage until Master Raymond appears and heals her. Once out of the hospital, Claire realizes why Jamie broke his promise about the duel and goes to the King to save him.
After saying their goodbyes to their daughter Faith, Jamie and Claire return to Lallybroch with Jamie's pardon. But peace is short lived as the Rising they tried to prevent comes to Scotland and sweeps them up.
Jamie and Claire are reunited with the MacKenzies as they fight the English in hopes of a freed Scotland. Claire sees Mary again and realizes Mary is pregnant with Alex Randall's child. But she encourages Jack Randall to wed Mary to give Alex's child a name. The fighting continues and history will not be changed and the Rising comes to an end at Culloden, but not before Jamie sends Claire back through the stones to safety with their unborn baby.
In the 1960s, Claire and Brianna visit Scotland and spend time with Roger Wakefield. Brianna learns who her father really is and discovers times travel is real. Roger informs Claire Jamie survived Culloden.
In Season Three, we see Claire in the 20th century trying to live her life with Frank. Claire and Frank move to Boston but their relationship can't start over as they wanted. Claire mourns Jamie and won't let Frank touch her. It is too much for Frank who can't stand the idea of Claire being with another.
After Claire gives birth to Brianna, she goes to medical school and becomes a doctor. While in med school she becomes friends with Joe Abernathy while Frank makes a different type of friend at Harvard.
When Brianna graduates from high school, Frank asks for a divorce and wants to take Brianna to England with him and his mistress. Claire refuses and Frank storms out only to get into a car accident and end up dead and Claire's hospital.
In the 1960s, Claire and Brianna are staying with Roger trying to find Jamie in history. When they reach a dead end they return to Boston where the two have trouble connecting. Roger appears with the news that he found Jamie in Edinburgh approximately 200 years ago and Brianna encourages her mom to go back to him. Claire and Brianna start the process of putting things in order and Brianna discovers Frank had a mistress. The three have a quick Christmas before send Claire off to Scotland and through the stones.
When Claire gets back to the 18th century she makes her way to Edinburgh were she finds Jamie, his nephew Young Ian, Fergus, the elder Ian and Jamie's illegal business. After Young Ian sets fire to the print shop to prevent Jamie from being found a guilty of sedition they all go back to Lallybroch.
Claire is met with anger as Jenny believes Claire should have returned to them rather than running off to France or wherever she was. Claire and Jenny work things out but not before Jenny brings Laoghaire to Lallybroch and Claire discovers Jamie married her enemy.
Claire ends up staying to doctor Jamie who was shot by Laoghaire and ends up forgiving Jamie. Jamie, Claire and Young Ian go to the coast after the Selkie treasure where he is abducted.
Claire and Jamie set sail for Jamaica on their rescue operation but are waylaid at sea by an English ship who kidnaps Claire for her doctoring abilities. Claire jumps ship near and island in hopes of warning Jamie that the Captain of said ship knows of his sedition and will be arresting him in Jamaica. Claire wanders around the island before being rescued but Father Fogden and Mamacita who eventually lead her back to Jamie who ended up on the beach when his ship encountered problems.
Jamie and Claire finally make it to Jamaica where they get a tip that Young Ian is at Rose Hall (Geillis plantation) and the two head out to find Young Ian but are stopped by Captain Leonard who arrests Jamie.
Claire goes on ahead and finds herself being interrogated by Geillis who believes Claire is trying to thwart her Jacobite plans. When Claire reveals what has happened to her and that she's traveled multiple times Geillis is stunned. Claire is locked in a room and Jamie finally frees her and she tells him she saw Young Ian being dragged away.
When the catch up to Geillis she is trying to use Young Ian as a sacrifice to steer through the standing stones. Claire stops her from going to the future to harm Brianna with an axe much to her dismay.
They all return to the Artemis and set sail for Scotland when a storm hits and Claire is thrown overboard. She wakes on a beach with Jamie and are informed they are in the colony of Georgia.
Claire and Jamie find themselves in Wilmington, North Carolina with hopes of settling down and starting a new life. The group goes to River Run plantation which is owned by Jamie's Aunt Jocasta. There Jamie is happy to help with the running of things but Jocasta's machinations and Claire's views on slavery prevent them from staying.
After Jamie makes a deal with the Governor, the Fraser's are granted a track of land and set off to find the perfect place to settle. There they encounter the local Cherokee tribe who are not welcoming. Claire's abilities with herbs and healing bring the Cherokee around once Jamie's own encounter with Tskili Yona which was seen as a great evil to the Cherokee people. Trade and friendly visits make things better until one of Claire's patients dies after a brief encounter with the Cherokee. The patient's father goes out for revenge killing, Claire's friend. But things look up when Murtagh returns to the fold.
Claire is stunned when Lord John Grey and William show up on the Ridge. When Lord John falls ill, Claire is forced to stay at the cabin to nurse him through his measles outbreak while Jamie takes Willie with him to check traps and go fishing. Lord John and Claire have some candid conversations and get to know and respect each other before Jamie and Willie return.
The Fraser's visit Wilmington to check on Marsali, Fergus and Germain. While in town Jamie and Claire go to the theatre with the Governor and meet George and Martha Washington before Claire repairs a hernia on a man which is mostly a distraction for Jamie to slip out to tell Fergus to warn Murtagh about the Governor's plot to capture him and his men.
Claire is gathering supplies the next day when Jamie brings her a surprise in the form of her daughter. They all set out for the Ridge where they pridefully show Brianna Fraser's Ridge. Claire grows concerned about Brianna and soon confronts her about her pregnancy much to Brianna's relief. However, the possible means of Brianna's pregnancy are very much a surprise to Claire who promises Brianna she won't tell Jamie. After finding her gold ring in Brianna's pocket, Claire knows who Brianna's rapists is but is bound by her promise. However, Jamie already believes he knows who her rapists is and when Brianna realizes Lizzie's mistake; she confronts Jamie.
Claire and Jamie are on opposite sides of things and are not speaking much to Young Ian's dismay. After delivering Brianna to Jocasta, they set out to find Roger and bring him home. Once they find him in the Mohawk village they try to free him but are stopped by the tribe. The Chief is willing to let the Fraser's go but Roger must stay as one of their own died in the escape attempt. Young Ian trades himself for Roger.
Claire and Jamie later explain to Roger that after he left Brianna she was raped by Stephen Bonnet. Roger is horrified and needs time. Claire and Jamie return to Brianna who has had a baby boy which she won't name until Roger returns. When Roger finally does return the Fraser feel a sense of relief until word from the Governor arrives enlisting Jamie in the capture of Murtagh.
