Sam Heughan, star of the hit STARZ series Outlander, has been named Scotland President for blood cancer charity Bloodwise.
Sam, who has been fund raising to beat blood cancer since 2011, says he is honoured to be part of the Bloodwise team.
The actor has participated in various marathons and a triathlon on behalf of Bloodwise, and has famously organized My Peak Challenge to help others achieve personal health and fitness goals while simultaneously fighting against blood cancer.
My Peak Challenge has raised £225,000 so far to help fund a clinical trial that is testing treatment for a particularly aggressive form of blood cancer.
Both Glasgow and Edinburgh Universities are heavily invested in researching blood cancers and their treatments, and Bloodwise - formerly known as Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research is well-known for its activity in Scotland.
Sam was announced president at a reception at the Lighthouse in Glasgow, where head of regional fundraising Yvonne Dickson presented him with a Scottish Quaich.
Of his new role, Heughan says: “It is a great honour to be given this title and to have met the extended Bloodwise family and individuals who have contributed to research and helped to fundraise. They are making a remarkable difference.”
